The Tidworth Reunion 2008

Friday 28th March 2008. 16.45 hours. I arrived at the Portway Inn near Andover and within minutes of my arrival I met Terry Joll and not long after that Pete Slade and Dave Rose, later we had a most enjoyable evening at Tidworth RBL with an excellent supper and good company! With special thanks to Bill & Esme for organising it all. Reports are that the ladies enjoyed it too!

It was only one night about six months ago that I serendipitously came across your marvellous SCLI website, I soon came across Pete Slade's Gallery which included a 1959 picture of Terry Joll, A.N.Other, Pete Slade & myself looking out of the back of an army lorry at Mercer barracks Osnabruck, bound we know not where? Here we all are forty-nine years later battered but not bent, reminiscing over old times.

For some, the first time they have met in 48 years.

Roger Chillcott

Tony Hood writes:

Hi Keith, five of us met up in Gloucester, unfortunately Gordie West, Alan Durston and Nigel Dear could not manage a mid week meeting, we had a good time (and more than a few laughs recounting our old lives in Training at Bodmin) amongst other things we took a stroll around the Glorious Glosters Museum, which had a ferret car on display and could not resist a photo posing in front of it. It struck me that you might like to display a gallery on your web page under the banner ' 62nd Draft Nat. Ser. Bodmin 1960'. Brian Aldridge and I are still actively trying to locate more ex SCLI now that we all got our heads together and have some new names and addresses to go thru' so hopefully we may be able to enlarge the group in the near future. Roger Taplin, Roger Chillcott, Alan Durston and Gordie West have all agreed to attend the next Reunion at Taunton.

While chatting to Eric Herrington recently he gave me this picture of these four veterans of SCLI. The interesting thing is that Lieut Col Ray Hall and Lieut Col Eric Herrington achieved the highest QM rank possible along it must be remembered with Lieut Col. Tom Meredith (all Quartermasters)

For a full list of promotions from the ranks go to Commissioned from the Ranks this webpage was the suggestion of Major General Barry Lane who expressed a wish that these soldiers should be applauded.
