1959-1968

Andrew Marshall lives locally to Gravesend and has had a life-long interest in military things, he spotted the SCLI website and the mention of Milton Barracks. He has kindly sent the following images. Andrew writes:

The barracks is long closed now, closest I got to the military was the Sea Cadets and we used one of the buildings in the barracks, about the only original building left is the gymnasium. The site is now mostly housing but the old fields at the bottom of the site are now being developed into the new Gurdwara (Sikh temple). This is giant building and will be clad in white marble when finished and looks pretty spectacular already. Who would have thought from those who left the barracks to become Empire builders, there would return some of the Empire to occupy it!

I will get around to scanning the rest of the book for you and I will also go up to the barracks and take some photographs that you might just remember....The Waterloo pub just outside the main entrance might be one such memory.

Regards
Andrew
